Christian prayers for the dying can offer comfort through the reminder that love is all there is, especially at the end of our lives.

symbol, cross, patriarchal As Christians we believe in the redeeming power of love. A power that is always available to us. Whenever and wherever. To everybody.

Christian prayers are one way to access that love. It is available to us at any time in our lives. No matter how dark our path has been. No matter how far we have strayed.

We are encouraged to be like the children. In our faith. In our trust. In our joy about this creation all around us.

Mother Mary in her dark blue velvet coat can bring us peace and comfort. When we feel her dark blue coat wrapped all around us, it can take away any sorrow. Any fear and any doubts. And leave us with simple motherly loving. What grace.

We believe in the resurrection of the body. With a variety of details depending on our particular Christian faith.

At our dying some of us require the Holy communion or the Sacrament of the Sick. Some of us like words of the Bible read to us. Some of us like to feel guided by our most familiar Christian prayers.

The Lord is my shepherd;
I have everything I need.
He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.

He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.

Even when I walk
through the dark valley of death,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.

Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.
You prepare a feast for me
in the presence of my enemies.

You welcome me as a guest,
anointing my head with oil.
My cup overflows with blessings.

Surely your goodness and unfailing love
will pursue me all the days of my life,
and I will live in the house of the Lord forever. Amen

- The Bible, Psalm 23 -

when the storm rages
around me,
and I can hold on no more,
when the waves of fear engulf me
and I am weary,
battered and sore,
take me then and steer me,
storm-tossed, broken and afraid,
into the arms of your safe harbor
safely home.

Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.

now and at the hour of our death.

Hail Mary, full of grace.
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb,
Mar Jeshua.

Holy Mary, Mother in God,
Hold for us, your beloved children,
The immaculate concept of
Our true God reality,
In this moment and at the time
Of our transformation,
As we surrender to your divine love
And receive your divine grace.

Christian Prayers for the Dying:
A Few Versions of The Lord's Prayer

Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,
the power and the glory,
for ever and ever.

- Lord's Prayer, traditional -

cross, patriarchal

Our Mother, Thou who art in the heart of Gaia
May the holiness of Thy name awaken our remembering.

May the breath of Thy loving presence
warm the hearts of all who wander homeless.

May the resurrection of thy memory
renew our faith eternally.

We receive this day your nurturing substance
to fill our cup of need,
and implore Thee to forgive us for forgetting Thee.
We ready ourselves to receive Thy blessings.

Mother, lead us toward the light
and the birth of the Christ within.

For Love is the Kingdom
Nurturing is the Power,
and Your wisdom with all merciful grace
is the glory
For all peoples, now and forever more.

ABWOON: Father-Mother God of the Cosmos
Abwoon is an Aramaic word for the power
of the universe to give birth
to new life every moment

- Aramaic Lords Prayer -

aramaic, lords prayer

O Birther! Father-Mother God of the Cosmos,
focus your light within us.
Create your reign of unity now.
Your one desire then acts with ours,
as in all fight, so in all forms.

Grant what we need each day in bread and insight.
loose the cords of mistakes binding us,
as we release the strands we hold of others' guilt.
Don't let surface things delude us,
but free-us from what holds us back.

From You is born all ruling will,
the power and life to do,
the song that beautifies all,
from age to age it renews.
Truly-power to these statements-
may they be the ground
from which all our actions grow.

- Lord's Prayer translated from the Aramaic -
- Version 1 -

Symbol, aramai, joshua

Oh Great Oneness,
Who Is everywhere
Giving Birth
to everything we see
in the Universe,

Sacred is the Sound
of Your Name
and Your Breath
which touches all forms.

I will sweep away
the clutter,
prepare a place for You
to live within me.

Our arms are poised
to create,
we desire
to work together
despite all odds,
remembering You,
Great Mother
Who Is always
Birthing new things.

We will to do
Your desire,
Oh Mother-Father,
in our lives
and to work with passion
for harmony and well-being
among ourselves
and all beings of Earth.

Give us sustenance
and daily nurturing,
Animate us with Insight
and Wisdom.

Forgive us
our faintness of heart,
and omissions of justice,
Release us from hidden sorrows
which affect mind and soul.

Help us to see
through the veil
of appearances
to the Oneness within,
Keep us from actions
which divert us
from our sacred paths.

Various Christian Prayers for the Dying

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood, as to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
for it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that
we are born to Eternal Life.

- Peace Prayer of St Francis -

Unto God’s gracious mercy
and protection we commit you.
May the Lord bless you and keep you;
may the Lord make his face to shine upon you
and give you peace evermore.

- The Bible, Chapter 6, Verses 24-26 -

prayer, hands, rosary

To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
A time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal;
A time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
A time to mourn, and a time to dance.

- The Bible, Ecclesiastes 3, Verses 1-4 -

Blessed are the poor in spirit:
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn:
for they shall be comforted.

Blessed are the meek:
for they shall inherit the earth.

Blessed are they which do hunger
and thirst after righteousness:
for they shall be filled.

Blessed are the merciful:
for they shall obtain mercy.

Blessed are the pure in heart:
for they shall see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers:
for they shall be called the children of God.

Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake:
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

- The Sermon on the Mountain, Matthew 5:3-10 -

God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
the courage to change the things I can;
and the wisdom to know the difference.

- The Serenity Prayer -

- Reinhold Niebuhr -

Watch thou, dear Lord,
with those who wake,
or watch, or weep tonight,
and give thine angels charge
over those who sleep.

Tend thy sick ones, Lord Christ.
Rest thy weary ones.
Bless thy dying ones.
Soothe thy suffering ones.
Pity thine afflicted ones.
Shield thy joyous ones.
And all, for thy love's sake.
